The Department of New media was founded in 2011 after internal analyses showed the need for a more active approach towards the digital transformation of the museum. In 2010 a strategy for New media was produced which was the founding document for the new department.
The Nordiska museet has recognized the need for adressing the needs of the stakeholders, the changing social, digital and online world. There are both new needs and demands from funders and politicians as well as audiences.
The New media department identifies the challenges in the process of transforming the museum towards social digital, and implements new ways of working, new tools and supports staff as well as management in decision making.
The department is wokring with all areas of digital within the museum, digital information infrastructure and digital assets, internal education in the area of social digital, producing in gallery digital experiences and managing the museum’s social media channels.
